Murder Charge Filed and Victim Identified

On March 31st, 2017, at 2:19 a.m., Dubuque Police & Fire personnel responded to 870 Kane Street on the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult female inside the residence with injuries consistent with being stabbed. Paramedics declared the female dead at the scene. She was later identified as Samantha J. Link, 21, of 870 Kane Street. An adult male was also present at the residence and was identified as Link’s boyfriend, Fontae C. Scam Burglary in Dubuque

On March 21st, 2017, at approximately 2:00 p.m., an elderly Dubuque resident was the victim of a scam related burglary. The resident reported a Hispanic male came to her door and indicated he was in the area doing concrete work/repairs. He further stated he noticed her back patio had a crack in the concrete. While the resident was distracted, discussing the repair and cost, a second suspect burglarized her home, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. Two Rescued after Fall in Mineshaft

On 10/15/16 at approximately 01:26 A.M. officers of the Dubuque Police Department responded to North Grandview Ave. near Bunker Hill Golf Course/Pet Park after receiving a third party report that two subjects were trapped in a mine shaft and one was injured. Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Warrant

On September 21st, 2016, at approximately 7:17 a.m., Dubuque Police arrested Charles A. Layfield, 29, of 2227 Washington Street, at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center on charges of Attempted Murder, Going Armed with Intent, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. The Jule Implements Changes to Youth Bus Fare

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Beginning August 1, students will no longer ride the Jule for free. A change to Jule policy will require students to swipe an Annual Youth Pass or pay the bus fare each time they ride the bus.Annual Youth Passes are now available for purchase and will remain valid through July 31, 2017. Man Involved in Standoff Arrested

On June 21st, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Dubuque County Sheriff’s Deputy located a vehicle occupied by an individual who was the subject of a welfare check issued to area law enforcement personnel. Shots Fired Investigation Leads to Arrest

On June 23rd, 2016, at 11:02 p.m., Dubuque Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 1400 block of Bluff Street. As officers arrived, several individuals attempting to leave the area were detained and identified. Among them was Martell D. Wilson, 19, of Zion, IL.
